Marshwood Baseball Improves to 9-2 By Staff reports firstname.lastname@example.org May 21, 2014 SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — The Marshwood High School baseball team broke a 2-2 tie by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and held on for a 4-2 victory over Thornton Academy in Western Maine Class A action on Tuesday. Ryan O’Neil and Zack Quintal reached on bunt singles and executed a double steal to put runners on second and third in the fifth. O’Neil scored on a wild pitch and Quintal crossed home plate on Noah McDaniel’s sacrifice fly to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead. Marshwood (9-2) trailed 2-1 in the third before Zach Hodges stole home to tie the game. Luke Stankovich had two of the Hawks’ six hits. Guy Hanks started on the mound for Marshwood and gave up two runs on six hits and one walk. He had three strikeouts in four innings. Jake Lebel (3-0) and Stankovich each pitched scoreless innings before Quintal got the save in the seventh. Boys Lacrosse Marshwood 10 Massabesic 5 WATERBORO, Maine — Led by Shane Mix’s four goals, Marshwood improved to 2-7 with this Western Maine Class A victory over Massabesic (1-7). Other contributors for the Hawks were Alec Taylor (one goal, one assist), Hanssen Casey (two goals, one assist), Sam McPherson (one assist), Devon Gilbert (two goals, one assist) and Phil Butler (one goal). Garry Dominguez played well defensively in front of goalie Nick Barrett (six saves). Girls Lacrosse Scarborough 13 Marshwood 11 SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Marshwood closed out the final 17 minutes of this Western Maine Class A contest on a 7-1 run, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Scarborough (5-3). Marshwood (6-2) trailed 9-3 at halftime and the Red Storm extended their lead to 12-4 in the second half. Lindsey Poirier led the Hawks with three goals and an assist. Marshwood received other scoring from Hannah Folger (two goals, three assists), Korinne Bohunsky (two goals), Hannah Costin (two goals), Finn Collins (one goal), and Annalise Poirier (one goal).
