Notice of Dr. Nash Intended Retirement
I am honored to have been given the opportunity to lead this magnificent district for the past eight years! The past eight years here in Marshwood have been the most treasured and rewarding years of my professional life! I wish to thank the Board of Directors, the fine administrators, the talented teachers and educational technicians who work hard each and every day to ensure that Marshwood students are the center of the instructional core our work! Of course, the district would not be able to offer such distinguished programming without the operational support and tireless efforts of our custodial staff, our administrative assistant staff, our food service staff and of course, our bus drivers!
Our district has developed many strong enhancements to its programming and organizational structure over the last eight years! Together, we have implemented school based budgeting and management. We have increased the total teaching and learning time for our students every year and we have created a 100 minute common planning time for every teacher every week so that they might work together collaboratively to unpack the standards, design scope and sequences for every content area in every grade level, craft units of study and polish exquisite lesson plans for their students!
We crafted a performance evaluation/professional growth plan together where teachers and administrators are provided high quality feedback on their performance and professional growth.
We also formed a partnership with the Rollinsford School district to educate their 7th-12th grade students at MMS and at MHS. We partnered with SAD 60 and with the Kittery School district to share seven essential professional positions across district lines. We created all-day Kindergarten classes for our five year old children. In conjunction with the MEA Benefits Trust, we successfully increased our employees’ engagement in their own wellness.
We created a technology plan that provides one computer device for each student every year with a three year financing replacement plan for every device in the district so that our technology will stay up to date for our students and teachers use over time!
We redesigned the district’s website so that it is user friendly and we organized our website so that information is readily available for our constituents. We video stream and post on the district’s website each Board meeting so that community members can watch the meetings at their convenience.
Each year for the past eight years the district has developed it budget to reflect sound investments in a rigorous academic program, a vibrant fine arts program and a robust physical education and wellness program. We have also invested in expanding the district’s co-curricular activities to offer our students increased access and opportunities.
We create and post budget FAQs on our website to respond to the communities’ inquiries regarding the district’s recommended budget so that our constituents are fully informed about the recommendations put forward in the annual district recommended budget.
We developed a comprehensive capital improvement plan and a corresponding programmatic improvement plan so that the district can plan for much needed but costly improvements over time.
We are the first district in Maine to hire an outside food service company to manage and run the district’s food service program where we have seen an increase in the use of fresh local commodities and a more cost efficient food service operation led and managed by professional chefs.
It is with these efforts solidly in place, that I have decided it is time for me to retire at the end of this school year. I will always sincerely treasure the years I have served here as your superintendent. It has been an honor! I thank each and every one of you for your support and outstanding dedication to the Marshwood community and its magnificent students! Thank you, Marshwood! Go Hawks!
