Dear Marshwood Community,
The Board of Directors of Maine School Administrative District 35, serving the children of Eliot and South Berwick, has named John Caverly as the next superintendent of schools starting July 1, 2019 to succeed Dr. Mary Nash, who is retiring at the end of June.
The selection is the result of an extensive search that produced 18 applicants from diverse geographic and professional backgrounds. The Board of Directors conducted a thorough interview process, including a 12 person advisory board made up of current MSAD 35 principals, administrators and teachers, to arrive at the selection of Mr. Caverly.
Mr. Caverly joined MSAD 35 in 2004 and has served the district as a Physical Education and Health teacher at Marshwood High School; as an Assistant Principal at Marshwood High School, as Principal of Marshwood Middle School and most recently as the Chief Operations Officer for the district. Mr. Caverly has always strived to create a safe and secure learning environment where students can thrive. Mr. Caverly takes pride in being a student centered decision maker and tirelessly works to create a school environment where student learning comes first.
Prior to joining MSAD 35, Mr. Caverly was employed by the East Longmeadow Public Schools, for ten years, where he served in various roles including Dean of Students, Mathematics Teacher, and Athletic Director. Mr. Caverly’s career in education began at the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative, where he taught Adapted Physical Education for grades Kindergarten to grade 12.
Mr. Caverly grew up in Bath, Maine and graduated from Morse High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Springfield College in Physical Education and earned his master’s degree in Counseling and Student Personnel Administration from Springfield College in 1995.
Mr. Caverly currently resides in South Berwick, with his wife Renee and two sons, Matthew and Connor. During his free time, Mr. Caverly enjoys exercising, working with youth in the community and spending time with family.
Please join us in welcoming Mr. Caverly to his new position at Marshwood! We are so happy and fortunate to move the District forward with him.
