The Great Works School offered a girls running club with Mrs. Lindgren and Mrs. Jacobs. We set out to build on the success of the “Girls on the Run” program at Central School. Many girls had developed a new interest in running in third grade and we set out to nurture that. We met twice a week through September to November here at GWS. We were not only running, but we also strived to reinforce positive self esteem, self talk and the importance of exercise in maintaining good health. We worked each week on stretching ourselves emotionally and physically. To top it all off the girls running club participated in a 5K to honor Honor Flight Maine- a program that brings WWII Veterans to the memorial in DC. It was extraordinary to see each of these girls meet and exceed their goals as runners and as people.
