The Marshwood Boys Alpine Team finished 6th out of 16 schools at the Class A State Championship held on Tuesday and Wednesday at Mt. Abram in Greenwood, ME. On Tuesday, senior Lewis Guy lead the Hawks in the Giant Slalom with a 15th place finish. Seniors Luke Doyle (30th) and Ethan Martin (59th) as well as freshman Brennan Schiverick (60th) also scored, leaving the Hawks (164 pts) in 9th place after Day One. The Hawks, lead by Ethan Martin (15th), finished 5th in Wednesday’s slalom to earn the 6th place in the combined a Championship. Guy (25th), Doyle (28th), and sophomore Tucker Davis (55th) also scored for the Hawks in the slalom. By finishing in the top 15 Guy and Martin earned a bid to the EHSC Alpine Shootout next Sunday at Black Mountain.
Class A State Championship Alpine Skiing Results
The Marshwood Girls Alpine team finished 13th overall. The Hawks had three racers disqualified in the GS, forcing them to take a goast score as the fourth team score. Sophomores Ginny Sullivan (35th) and Alayna Melino (40th), and junior Alex Gale (72nd) finished cleanly for Marshwood. Sophomore Katie Mundell (19th) paced the Hawks in Wednesday’s Slalom. Sophomore Brooke Flynn (54th), junior Simone Chagnon (74th), and Alex Gale (78th) also scored for the Hawks in the slalom.
Jack Harrington from York High School finished 18th overall in both the GS and Slalom. York also posted finishes by Parker and Gus Hogan in both disciplines to finish 12th overall as a team in the Class A Boys Championship. Betti Stevens and Bella Woollacott, racing as independents from Traip Academy, posted solid finishes in both events. Stevens finished 17th in both the GS and Slalom events while Woollacott finished 24th and 44th, respectively.
The Hawks had five racers named to the SMAA All-Conference team this season: Ethan Martin, Luke Doyle, and Lewis Guy for the boys and Katie Mundell and Ginny Sullivan for the girls.
