The Marshwood track teams competed in the Class A state championships on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Hampden Academy. The boys team was led by their 4×400 m relay team that won the state championship in the event, with a 3:29.28. The time set a new school record and was the fastest time in the entire state of Maine for the 2016 outdoor track season. The relay team was composed of Zach Wilson, Gus Leisentritt, Biruk Moore and Burt Dow, who are all seniors. Dow also was the state runner up in the 400 m dash, setting a new school record with his time of 50.88 and was 5th in the 200 m dash (23.29). Leisentritt also placed in the 400 m dash, finishing 4th (52.04).
Other Hawks who had standout performances include Natalie DuBois, who was 3rd in the 800 m run (2:23.83), Jake Bossi, who was 3rd in the Javelin (164-8) and Nick Tice, who was 7th in the Javelin (146-7). The girls 4×800 m relay team of Mya Cartmill, Kelly Dube, Mackenzie Young and Natalie DuBois also finished 6th with a time of 10:22.15.
The boys 4×400 m relay team, the girls 4 x 800 m relay team and Jake Bossi in the javelin will compete next Saturday, June 11 at the New England Championships in New Britain, Connecticut.
