2019 National Merit Scholarship
Marshwood High School Principal, Paul Mehlhorn, announced today that seniors Liam Coomey, Nathan Kiesman and Noble Mushtak have been selected to receive a 2019 National Merit Scholarship. From the nationwide pool of 16,000 finalists, these students were among the 7,500 students chosen as scholarship winners.
About 1.6 million juniors from more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) which serves as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of 15,000 finalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. “The young men and women recognized as finalists have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of academic excellence in our nation.”
