MHS musicians recently were invited, attended and were recognized for excellence at the University of Massachusetts Honors Band Festival. There were students at the festival from seven different states and only 265 student total were accepted. As a result of successful early morning auditions, four students were accepted into the top ensemble. Three of those students earned the top score in their sections and were awarded first chair on their instruments. Max Richardson, Joshua Gagnon, and Sierra Connell were all first chair on Trumpet, Trombone, and Flute, respectively. Erin Campbell was fourth chair clarinet out of 43 clarinets. The students had six hours of rehearsal on music they only got Saturday morning and performed a concert Saturday night. At the end of the performance, two students from each ensemble were selected for an outstanding musician award. Josh Gagnon was one of the two students chosen from his band. Excellent work!
