Seacoast Roundup: SMAA Playoffs: Marshwood goes 1-1

GORHAM, Maine — The Hawks went 1-1 in the SMAA playoffs at the University of Southern Maine.

Max Weaver pitched a four-hit shutout in the first game, a 1-0 win over South Portland. They lost the second game to Thornton, 2-1.

Weaver went the distance, whiffing five and walking two.

Marshall Smaracko (2 for 3, RBI) knocked in the only run in the fifth with a double that scored Connor Caverly.

Marshwood outhit Thornton, 7-4, in defeat.

Quinn McDaniel went 2 for 3. Adam Doyon went 1 for 2 and knocked in the only run in the seventh.

John Riccardi pitched three innings, allowing both runs, to take the loss.

Marshwood is the No. 4 seed in the Class A South tourney. The Hawks will host the winner of Tuesday’s game between No. 5 Windham and No. 12 Portland in a quarterfinal game on Thursday.
