Marshwood Middle School Grade 7 and 8 Concert Band Earns Silver

The Marshwood Middle School Grade 7+8 Concert Band participated in the Maine Band Directors Concert Band Festival at Scarborough.  Marshwood  Middle School has participated in this festival for more than a dozen years.  There were 26 bands involved in the festival this year.  Fifty-one Marshwood students participated this year.

The band was adjudicated on three pieces that they prepared.  The pieces performed were:  “Ayre For Eventide”, “Mills On The Merrimack”, and “The Forge Of Vulcan”.  In addition, the band was evaluated on  “sight-reading” a piece that they had never seen before.  After their performance and sight-reading, students worked with Rick Cook on rehearsal and performance techniques to help them continue to improve. The three judges were Rick Cook from S.N.H.U.,  Terry White, a retired Maine music educator and composer, and Dr. David Neves, a music educator in the Needham, Massachusetts schools.  Our final score was 85.6 which earned the band a ‘Silver” medal.  Congratulations to the band for their hard work preparing for this performance and thank you to the M.M.S. staff and administration for their support!
