Each year the Maine Arts Commission and the Department of Education recognize student artists with the Maine Excellence in Arts Education celebration and exhibit. Marshwood Middle School has been selected to represent one of the nine superintendent regions of the state. To celebrate the occasion, 45 student exhibitors and 9 visual arts educators (from the state of Maine) will have their work displayed at the Maine State Capitol Complex. While the students’ artwork is displayed, the artists and their families will be invited to the Hall of Flags for a Celebration of Excellence in Visual and Performing Arts Education reception. The First Lady, the Department of Education, and the Maine Arts Commission will recognize each student for their accomplishments on Tuesday, December 11th, 2:00 – 4:00 pm. The reception will feature performances from the districts represented in the art show.

The following student artists will be celebrated for their achievements and contribution to the arts:

Mia Constantakos

Lydia Phipps

Emerson Lachance

Anja Blanchette

In addition to the above-mentioned artists, students from the advanced Art Fundamentals (Grade 8) class at MMS will have the unique opportunity to attend the celebration in Augusta and experience the arts excellence in our Maine schools.
