Marshwood Middle School’s 19th Annual Veterans Day Celebration

Marshwood Middle School’s 19th Annual Veterans Day Celebration

On November 1, 2019, Marshwood Middle School will host its 19th annual Veterans Day Celebration.  The school-wide assembly, which starts at 9:00 a.m., features various student tributes to our local veterans.  Most of the veterans are parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends of our students and staff. Local first responders and various dignitaries, including state representatives, local politicians, and school board members, attend our celebration to honor our veterans.  Last year, we had over 400 guests in attendance.

All guests form a reception line at 9:00 a.m. and every student passes through the line shaking hands and welcoming our guests.  The reception line emphasizes a personal touch for every student to come in contact with our guests.

Upon gathering in the gym, the Eliot Police Department Honor Guard will post the Colors and for the next hour, several tributes are presented from the student assembly to our veterans in musical selections, video presentations, and readings.

At the conclusion of the assembly, we host an amazing luncheon (complete with the authentic SOS!) in our cafeteria where students serve our veterans and guests.  Following the luncheon, we invite veterans to stay and share their stories with our eighth-graders in the classrooms.

We hope you are able to attend our special day to honor those who serve.
