Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical Comes to Marshwood High School cast

Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical Comes to Marshwood High School

Roald Dahl’s magical story of an extraordinary girl comes to life as Marshwood Theatre presents Matilda the Musical.

Matilda, a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and telekinetic powers, is unloved by her self-involved parents, who barely spend time with her. Her Headmistress, Mrs. Trunchbull, also mistreats her, but armed with a vivid imagination, Matilda finds solace in stacks of library books. Magic appears as she dares to take a stand and change her destiny. She finds a kindred spirit in her teacher Miss Honey, and their friendship ultimately saves them both.

Stepping into the role of Marshwood’s Fall District Musical Director this year, Bianca Pietro never doubted the success and the joy this production would bring to her and the cast and crew members. “I knew that this production had to be memorable, relatable, and fun for all ages. So, choosing the show was a no-brainer because I wanted something with fabulous music, unique choreography, a good story to follow, and magic.”

Bringing a wealth of experience to her new role, Mrs. Pietro is currently in her second year on the Executive Board as Youth Education Director at Garrison Players Arts Center in Rollinsford. With this role at GPAC, she has produced, choreographed, and music directed over a dozen youth ed and teen musicals over the years. In addition, she most recently performed as "Maggie" in A Chorus Line at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre, acted as Music Director for Hackmatack Playhouse’s production of Always…Patsy Cline and choreographed Footloose, Full Monty, and A Christmas Carol for Rochester Opera House.  Bianca has also been the Music Director with Dover Middle School and helped with choreography for the Dover High School theatre department. She is elated to share her love of theatre and education with Marshwood.

David Graichen, Marshwood High School’s Band Director, is thrilled to be Matilda’s Pit Director and said that students enjoy working with Mrs. Pietro. "It is so wonderful to be able to have the District Musical again this year and to see students performing again. The last two years were long, and we have all needed this. I cannot wait to share the show with all of our family and friends!"

In Matilda, the strong little girl says, “Just because you find that life's not fair, it doesn't mean that you just have to grin and bear it.” Mrs. Pietro agrees. “Many things happening in our world don’t seem fair, but I couldn’t just grin and bear it - the show must go on!”

Wildly colorful, fun, and magical, Matilda will tug at heartstrings, evoke laughter and inspire all ages. Matilda, the sweet little girl who had to grow up on her own, will win the hearts of big and small alike and leave the audience thankful that they came to spend a little time with her.
