Happy 100th Birthday Central School!
On May 30th our greater Central School family embarked on our 30th annual Hike Through History! The theme this year was Happy Birthday Central School. Students were engaged in hands-on activities as they learned about what life was like in South Berwick over the last 100 years. We kicked off this special event by singing Happy Birthday to Central School followed by River in Your Town, written by Sammie Haynes and former Central School students. During the hike students learned how fashion, children’s literature, transportation, technology, Central School, birthday parties and more changed over time. They danced through the decades and played 'old fashion’ games in the fields. Keeping with tradition, members of our fire department, town hall and police department grilled hot dogs for our picnic lunch. We celebrated this 100th birthday with cupcakes for all.
Many thanks to John Caverly, Nina D’Aran, Nicole St. Pierre, Tracy LaPoint, Erin Johnson, Rachel Moore, Linda Harmon, Todd Huges, our local town officials and SB police department for supporting and valuing this one of a kind community event. Thank you to our amazing and dedicated 3rd and 7th grade teachers and our specialists! Thank you to our smart, responsible, and creative 7th and 3rd grade students! You made this day extra special and we are proud of you!
The Hike Through History’s mission is to connect children with their sense of place and help them become aware of the changes that happen over time.
