In today’s world, we need peace more than ever.
On Friday September 19th, Central School students celebrated the International Day of Peace. During the first few weeks of school, our librarian, art, music, and PE teachers have been reading books, singing, and making art about peace with our Central School students. We’ve had great discussions about what peace means to us, our school, and community.
To celebrate the International Day of Peace, we sang “Peace in Our Fingers”, read a Peace Pledge poem, walked in a peace parade, and waved to community members/onlookers, both driving and on foot. We were joined by two of our local police officers. The International Day of Peace provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. In 2002, the United Nations General Assembly officially declared September 21 as that date and we enjoy celebrating it each year here at Central School.
