Girls on the Run

This fall, for eight weeks from mid-September until about mid-November, fourteen third, fourth, and fifth grade girls from Central and the Great Works School met each Monday and Wednesday after school to participate in a program called Girls on the Run. This is a nationwide program whose mission is to, "inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident, using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running." We have been offering this program twice a year for the past nine years, and we have impacted the lives of many girls through it, and this season was no different. We worked each week to build not just the girls' strength and stamina, but also their confidence and other important life skills. During the course of the season, the girls completed two 5ks. The first one was completed by simply running multiple laps around the perimeter of the school to equal the distance of a 5k, while the second one was completed by running from Central School to Aggie's Fields, and back again. They were cheered on by family, staff, and friends, and it was a truly wonderful experience for all. Girls on the Run this season was truly, "so much fun!"
