Mandala Mural

The Central School PTO awarded our school with a week-long artist residency that resulted in a bright welcoming mural. Kenley Darling spent her time painting, talking with students about her process, and answering many questions. Prior to Kenley's visit, student artists learned about mindfulness, the importance of engaging and persisting, and mandalas- something from which Kenley often draws inspiration. Students took part in designing their own mandalas, using symbols unique to them. Mandalas were created with paint on cardboard and wood, on paper with colored pencils and sparkly crayons, and outside with chalk and nature bits. We watched a PBS video that showed the creation of a sand mandala and many were impressed with the patience and dedication involved. Kenley hopes the mural will  "brighten our day, every day," I know it will.    Brenda Stewart, CES Art Educator
