Principal's Welcome Back to School

Dear Eliot Elementary School Families,

We are thrilled that you will be joining us for the 2023-2024 school year at Eliot Elementary School, a place where your child will actively participate in a learning environment that supports the growth and development of the following principles: cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control (C.A.R.E.S.).  We believe that such an environment makes it possible for every child to flourish academically and social-emotionally.

This school year we will welcome new members to the Eliot Elementary School Team.  In searching for such members, we considered their experiences, particularly those related to professional preparation, teaching practices, child development, working collaboratively within a “Professional Learning Community” Model, and building effective working relationships with families and members of the school community.  We welcome the following people to our EES Team: Jaime Humber, Special Education Teacher; Emily Owens, Prekindergarten Teacher; Nicole Harvey, Kindergarten Teacher; Taylor Hadra, Kindergarten Teacher; Amanda Annicelli, Kindergarten Teacher; Katie Emmons, Second Grade Teacher; Robin Pike, Custodian; and Lindsay Jardine, Recess Monitor.  Current EES staff members who have been reassigned to new positions include Kim Schults, Library Educational Technician; and Kayla Perry, First Grade Teacher.

In preparing for this new school year, please take the opportunity to review the 2023-2024 Eliot Elementary School Family Handbook, which can be found at the following link: Eliot Elementary School Handbook '23-'24  In addition, your child’s classroom teacher(s) will provide you with information that will help to make your child’s first days in school successful.

In regard to communication with members of our Eliot Elementary School Team, please be sure to contact us, if you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s educational experience.  It is our belief that a partnership between “home” and “school” will allow each party to support the student in the most developmentally appropriate ways.

Eliot Elementary School is blessed to have an impressive record of volunteerism provided by parents/guardians/other family members, as well as members of the community.  If you are interested in volunteering, please be sure to let your child’s teacher know.  You can pick up a volunteer application in the main office.  In addition, the “Partnership of Eliot Elementary Parents” or often referred to as “PEEPs” will provide numerous volunteer opportunities for parents/guardians/other family members.

The health and safety of our students is a priority.  We encourage you to review information shared by Kasey Callahan, School Nurse, which will provide the guidance that you will need when contemplating whether or not your child should stay home or attend school when considering a medical matter.  Your child is a valued member of our school community, and we look forward to interacting with the child every day that they are feeling well.

As we move closer to the opening day of school, which is August 30, 2023, you may be wondering about a few things, including the following:

Will I get a chance to meet my teacher and other members of the EES staff before August 31, 2022?  Yes, on August 29, 2023 from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. we will host a “Sneak Peek”.  You will learn more about the “Sneak Peek” experience through a letter from your classroom teacher.

Is school breakfast and lunch available to students?  School breakfast and lunch is free for all students.

Where can I get information regarding transportation (school bus pick-up and drop-off?  Information regarding matters of school transportation can be accessed on the MSAD#35 website or you can call 207-384-4681.

What if I’m not sure where I go when I get off the school bus or get dropped off by my parents?  Members of our EES staff will be there to assist and guide you.

We look forward to seeing you soon!  My best wishes to you all!

Sincerely,

Dr. Peter E. Harrison
