The Marshwood Education Foundation Awarded two Spring Cycle Grants to Eliot Elementary School. MEF members visited classrooms to share this exciting news with students and staff members..
Here are the descriptions of the two grants:
From Classroom to Nature: Building Teacher Capacity for Outdoor Learning at Eliot Elementary
This grant will provide support for building the foundational capacity for outdoor learning at Eliot Elementary School through an outdoor education consultancy with Anne Stires. The initiative will begin with the Kindergarten team and gradually extend to the broader school community. Funds provided through this grant will allow Eliot Elementary to establish an intentional and sustainable nature-based learning model that will enrich student learning and their connection to the world around them.
Trolley Back in Time
“Trolley Back In Time” will be an event for all students at Eliot Elementary School. This event, and the experiences leading up to it, will highlight the electric trolley system that once ran through Eliot and the historical landmarks in its path. Students in PreK through grade one will be introduced to the concept of the electric trolley using appropriate literature and hands-on activities. Second and third grade students will participate in a “Day of Riding the “Trolley” from place to place while locating historical sites and developing a sense of historical places in their community.
