Great News from Great Works School

Solar Car Races

On Friday, May 26th, Fifth-grade students from Marshwood Great Works School in South Berwick, Maine will participate in its annual Solar Car Race. The students have been learning about solar power along with the engineering design process to brainstorm, design, and construct solar-powered cars to race down a track 20 meters in length. The students were given criteria that include dimensions and payload requirements, but the rest is up to them.

The cars will be judged on: speed, technical merit, craftsmanship, creative use of recycled materials, innovation, kid's choice, and the 4 C’s award: creativity, cooperation, collaboration, and compromise.

The students are very excited to see how their creations will fair on the race track.
