Goats

Through a RREV Award from the Maine Department of Education, Great Works was able to ‘Hire” 9 goats from Legacy Lance Farm! The goats were penned in areas of the playground to eat the poison ivy and invasive plants that were working their way into our outdoor classrooms.

Mrs. Allis and Mrs. Shaw, our literacy teachers, took over the task of wrangling the goats, and the students got to walk them! The kids learned how using goats is a safe way to handle invasive species.

Goats are amazing escape artists, and these ones were no different! The neighbors pitched in and helped corral them each time!

Student favorites were Oreo, Dav, and Big Mama.
