solar car

Fifth grade students took to the track on Friday for the annual solar car races. Excitement was high as the 59 cars were set to race

Students learned about Newton’s Laws of Motion and solar energy. They were put into teams to brainstorm, design, and construct cars powered by solar energy.

Because the weather was rainy, students equipped their cars with battery packs. Each car was tested for accuracy before being placed to race.

Cars were judged on speed, technical merit, craftsmanship, creative use of recycled materials, innovation, kids choice, and the 4 C’s award -creativity, cooperation, collaboration and compromise.
