GWS Chorus Permission Slip

September 15, 2021

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and tell you a bit about the chorus program at Great Works School.  My name is Janice Marro, and I have been the music and chorus teacher at GWS for 18 years.  The chorus is a huge part of the GWS experience and I am SO excited that we can sing together in person again this year!

Chorus meets during the school day, on Thursdays after lunch and recess.  This year, the chorus will be rehearsing in the gymnasium so we can appropriately social distance.  The CDC and Maine Music Educators Association have both said that singing is allowed in school, as long as students are fully masked and three feet apart.  The gym is set up with assigned seats, with a row in between each, so that students have more than three feet in front of them.  Ms. Scelza (the school nurse) and I will be creating a seating chart to keep class cohorts near each other, while still being a part of the larger group. The chorus meets by grade level, so the kids will be singing with all of the other chorus members from their grade.  The 5th grade chorus will meet from 12:05-12:35pm and the 4th grade chorus will meet from 1:05-1:35pm every Thursday, beginning on September 23rd!

Students are allowed to try chorus for two weeks, and after that they will need to decide if they want to continue.  After that, students are expected to attend chorus each Thursday until our Winter Concert.  More details will be sent home about if and when we can hold performances this year.  Chorus is not required, but a ton of students participate!  Also, students can participate in both band and chorus because they meet at different times.

This year I am going to require that students have a signed permission slip in order to attend the first rehearsal.  Please fill out the form below and return it to me no later than Wednesday, September 22nd so I can properly assign seats and plan for the first rehearsal!   If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (207)384-4010 or email me at janice.marro@rsu35.org.  I sincerely look forward to working with your child this year!

Sincerely,

Janice Marro,   Great Works School Music Teacher
