        Marshwood High School Top Ten Seniors

#1: Valedictorian - Leah Maddison

Leah Maddison is the child of James and Kelley Maddison, who reside in South Berwick, Maine. Leah is an officer of the National Honor Society, a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and participates in Quiz Bowl, theatre, and Varsity Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field. Leah has been the treasurer of her class throughout high school, and is also a Peer Tutor during study hall. Leah is the recipient of three Aimee Schramm Book Awards, the Freshman Science Award, the Freshman and Junior Math Awards, two Excellence in Vocal Ensemble Awards, the Jane Hilton Math Award, and the 2021 Track and Field Girls’ Most Improved. In her free time, Leah enjoys attending concerts, reading, listening to music, traveling, and working at an ice cream shop. After high school, Leah plans to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute to major in Data Science.

#2:  Salutatorian - Alex Dixon

Alex Dixon is the daughter of Shauna Horsley and Ron Dixon of South Berwick Maine. Most know her as Lexie. She is an officer of the Piscatiqua Chapter of the National Honor Society. Since Freshman year, Lexie has been a member of the Marshwood Interact Club, through which she has engaged in many community service activities. During her time at Marshwood, Lexie was also a member of the French Club and the Environmental Club, where she has helped collect and sort the school’s recycled bottles and cans for CLYNK every week. Throughout her high school career, Lexie has been the recipient of the English Award both her Freshman and Junior years, the Pottery Award, the French Award, and the Aimee Schram Book Award as a Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior. Outside of school, Lexie has been a serious and committed dancer at Brixham Danceworks, spending many hours each week practicing ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, tap, and acro. In 2018 Lexie joined the Brixham Repertory Company, and since then has performed at numerous benefits and competitions. In her free time, Lexie enjoys cultivating her creative interests through knitting, crocheting, throwing pottery, hiking, gardening, writing, and reading. She will be attending Connecticut College to pursue Environmental Studies and also intends to continue dancing.  

#3:  Abigail Simonelli

Abigail Simonelli daughter of Holly and David Simonelli, resides in South Berwick, Maine. Abby is a member of the Piscataqua Chapter of the National Honor Society. Since the age of four, she has danced at Brixham Danceworks, practicing styles of dance such as ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, modern, contemporary, tap, and acrobatics. She is also part of Brixham’s Repertory Team, a competitive dance group, where she competes and dances in fundraisers and benefits. Abby is a member of Interact, a volunteer-based club, the Environmental Club, and a Peer Tutor, helping students predominantly in math and science. Over her high school career, Abby has received multiple Aimee Schramm Book Awards. When she's not at school or work,  Abby enjoys reading, roller skating, painting, music, and board games. She will be attending Wentworth Institute of Technology in the fall as an honors student in the Engineering program. 

#4:   Ryan Pote

Ryan Pote is the son of Jeff and Bridget Pote, has lived in South Berwick for most of his life. Ryan is a member of the Piscataqua Chapter of the National Honor Society, as well as the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Ryan has played the trumpet in Marshwood’s Concert Band and has been part of Marshwood’s Soccer Team, as well as the Indoor and Outdoor Track Teams since his Freshman year. In his free time, Ryan enjoys hanging out with friends, playing soccer, running, swimming, golfing, and watching movies. Ryan will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute to study Aerospace Engineering.

#5:  Sean Williams

Sean Williams is the son of Brittany and David Williams, residing in Eliot. Sean has competed on the Marshwood Math and CyberPatriot Teams throughout high school. He is a member of the Piscataqua Chapter of the National Honor Society and volunteers to teach computer programming at Marshwood Middle School. This year, Sean founded the Game Club, which provides a space for people to enjoy games of all kinds and has held a competitive chess tournament. Sean has received both Magna and Maxima Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam. He and his CyberPatriot teammates have finished first in Maine two years in a row. Sean has also won the state in the Trig-Star Trigonometry Competition and has received the College Board National Recognition Award. Sean spends his free time talking with friends and playing video games, but he also enjoys learning about subjects he’s interested in, such as Japanese and computer science. Next year, Sean will be studying computer science at Columbia University in Manhattan, NYC.

#6:  Jonah Nobel

Jonah Nobel is the son of Kristin and Zachariah Nobel and lives in South Berwick. He has played trombone since 4th grade, and participated in Marching Band since 2018. He also has participated in Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble throughout high school. Jonah has received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, and Magna Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam twice. He is a National Merit Finalist, and Jonah is the treasurer of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and a member of the CyberPatriot Team since Freshman year. In his free time, he enjoys detecting rats with machine vision, scuba diving, designing rocket motors, and backpacking in the mountains. This fall, Jonah is attending Purdue University to study Aerospace Engineering.

#7:  Charlotte Daniels

Charlotte Daniels is the child of Sean and Laurel Daniels and lives in South Berwick, Maine. Charlotte is a member of the Piscataqua Chapter of the National Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Taking after her father, Charlotte has been a percussionist since the age of nine and has played a variety of percussive instruments in Marshwood’s Concert, Marching, Winter Percussion, Pit Orchestra, and Jazz Bands. Her musicianship ranges from snare drum, bass drum, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, and timpani, to a wide array of auxiliary instruments. She also has been selected for the District One Honors Band Festival in previous years. Focusing on marching percussion in her free time, she has received private drum lessons since 2021 and her dedication to marching has propelled her into the world of Drum Corps International. She has marched with the Spartans Drum & Bugle Corps (based in Nashua, NH)  in 2021, 2022, and now as a section leader in 2023, touring across the country and performing at over 22 stadium venues in 15 states. She has also marched in the Spartans Indoor Percussion program in their inaugural 2022 and 2023 seasons, performing at the UD Arena for Winter Guard International Finals in Dayton, Ohio. While rehearsing with Spartans, Charlotte served as a volunteer music and visual technician for Marshwood’s Winter Percussion program in 2022 and 2023. Throughout her high school career, Charlotte has won the John Philips Sousa Band Award, as well as departmental awards in History and English. When she is not practicing for her next rehearsal weekend, Charlotte enjoys drawing, reading, outlining stories, debating movies, and playing video games with friends. Charlotte will be attending Wheaton College this fall with an undecided major but plans to explore Biochemistry and Biology.

#8:  Grace Ducharme

Grace Ducharme is the daughter of Laurie and Robert Ducharme of Eliot. She is a member of the Piscatiqua Chapter of the National Honor Society and Tri M Music Honor Society. She has been riding horses since she was 8 years old at Whishmaker Stables and participated on their IEA Team. In 2020, she made it to the New England Equitation Championships with her horse Gracerusa CBF. She began playing violin when she was four. Since then, she has participated in the UNH Youth Symphony Orchestra, Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra, and Maine All State Orchestra. In her free time she enjoys hiking, swimming, camping, and spending time with her friends and her horse. Grace will be attending the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign to study Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. 

#9:  Jonathan Sawyer

Jonathan Sawyer is the son of Eben and Beth Sawyer of South Berwick, Maine. Jonny participated in soccer throughout high school, and indoor/outdoor track in his Junior and Senior years. Serving as one of the captains, Jonny was lucky enough to be featured in the 4x100 Relay Team which broke the school record his Senior year. A member of the National Honor Society, he also received the Science Department’s book award his Junior year. Jonny enjoys spending his time with his family, friends, and dog while staying active. He will attend the University of Maine this fall in their Honors College for Engineering. 

#10:  Jared Herrin

Jared Herrin is the son of Larisa and Douglas Herrin and lives in Eliot, Maine. Throughout high school, he has played on the Marshwood Basketball Team, and the Marshwood Lacrosse Team for all four years he has been at Marshwood, and ran cross country for Marshwood during his Freshman and Sophomore years. Over the course of his high school career, Jared has received Honor Awards for Math and Science, Undergraduate Honor Awards for the years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021, Scholar Athlete for Basketball, Cross Country, and Lacrosse Awards, and selected for the Maine All-State Basketball Academic Team. During his free time, Jared enjoys hiking, going to the movies, reading, and playing video games. He has also studied piano off and on for 10 years. Jared will be leaving this fall to go to Chile for two years to serve as a missionary for his Church, after which he will attend Brigham Young University in Provo to study Civil Engineering.
