Integrated Studies students recently visited the Great Bay Discovery Center to learn about the Wabanaki way of life as it existed hundreds of years ago. A special highlight of the trip was being guided by an MHS Class of 2022 graduate, who led the group through hands-on activities and shared insights into traditional tools and techniques. Students made wampum, examined native animal pelts, and learned about hunting, fishing, and food preservation—complete with a taste test of turkey jerky for the adventurous!
The experience concluded inside a traditional wigwam, where students learned about the importance of storytelling in Indigenous cultures and listened to a Wabanaki legend explaining why turtles hibernate under the mud.
It was a wonderful day of connection and discovery, and our students represented MHS with curiosity, respect, and enthusiasm throughout the experience.
