On April 8th, 29 students from Marshwood High School competed in the local Trig-Star contest. The 29 students who competed were students from Mrs. Crowley's Honors Precalculus classes. Trig-Star is a competition sponsored by the National Society of Professional Land Surveyors to promote the surveying profession among high school students. Originally designed to operate only at local and state levels, it has since expanded to include a national competition and scholarship opportunities.
The contest challenges students to solve complex trigonometry problems involving triangles and other geometric shapes.
This year’s local winner was Marshwood sophomore Tommie Mannion. As the local winner, Tommie received a plaque and a cash prize. His score was then submitted to the state level, where he again had the highest score and best time in Maine.
As the state winner, Tommie received an additional cash prize, will have his name featured on the Trig-Star website, and earned the opportunity to compete in the National Trig-Star Contest.
