Good News from Marshwood Middle School
Sixth-Grade Students Meet Musher Lara Renner and Her Dogs
The 6th graders had a special day of learning on Thursday, March 30th. After reading Black Star, Bright Dawn by Scott O’Dell and studying the Iditarod of both the present and the past, mushers from the Star Wars-themed Team Snowspeeders, from Alton, NH were invited to speak with the students and staff about their experiences with sleddog racing. Lara Renner is a 20-year-old musher and full-time college student who has been racing since she was ten years old. She has participated in many local sled dog races in the area and also ran in the Junior Iditarod in 2018 at the age of 15.
In her presentation, she shared that the qualities of perseverance, teamwork, and responsibility were at the core of her success with her dog sled team.
The sixth graders were excited to meet her and some of her dogs including Chewy, R2, and Kylo in the Marshwood Middle School library.
