Dear MMS Parents, March 27, 2026 MMS Laptop Use Expectations Update Marshwood Middle School will be implementing updated expectations regarding student laptop use. We have observed an increase in students not using technology responsibly, including attempts to bypass the Securly filter and access inappropriate or non-school-related content, as well as engaging in games that are not appropriate for a school setting. While staff and our technology department continue to address these challenges, some content—such as publicly accessible Google Docs (e.g., “Ultimate Game Stash”)—cannot be fully restricted at this time. We are actively working on solutions to limit access to these materials. As a result, the following expectations will be enforced:
● Students will receive two warnings for inappropriate laptop use.
● After a second violation, the student’s laptop will be restricted.
● Restricted laptops will be stored with the student’s Hawk Time teacher and issued only when needed for academic purposes.
● Laptop privileges will be restored after the student demonstrates appropriate use over a period of time, determined based on the situation.
This policy will take effect on March 27, 2026. We appreciate your support as we work to ensure that technology is used responsibly and supports student learning.
