Clouds of colored powder rose over Marshwood Middle School’s track Oct. 2 as students kicked off the school’s first color run, celebrating a fundraiser that brought in more than $27,000.
Each group started by tossing powder into the air before heading around the track. Some students ran, while others walked with classmates. Teachers and volunteers stationed along the course cheered them on and tossed more color as they passed.
The fundraiser exceeded its $25,000 goal. Money raised through the school’s new parent-teacher organization will support field trip experiences for each grade and a shed for storing recess equipment.
“This was a chance for our students to have fun together and celebrate something our school community helped make possible,” said Principal Christine Goulet. “We’re grateful to everyone who contributed and to the volunteers who put the day together.”
Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade teams participated at scheduled times throughout the school day. White event T-shirts picked up layers of pink, blue, yellow and other colors as students made their way around the track and beneath a colorful inflatable arch. Some wore sunglasses and shower caps.
“The support we’ve received will help us give students more opportunities to learn outside the classroom and make improvements they can enjoy here at school,” Goulet said. “Our PTO has put a lot of work into this, and I’m thankful for the families and staff who helped.”
