Meet Mr. Joyner

Where did you grow up and attend school?

**I grew up in Raleigh, NC, and attended Millbrook High School.

 Where did you attend college?

**I attended Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL, where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration.  I also attended East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, where I received my Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Art Education.

Why did you want to become a teacher?

**Looking back, I recognized the important roles teachers played in my life. I wanted to become a teacher so I could be that same source of inspiration and encouragement for others.

Was there a particular person in your life that impacted your career choice or was your role model?

**It was my high school art teacher, Ms. Bellamy, who encouraged me to attend art school and my parents who supported me and my desire to pursue a career in the visual arts.

Why do you like teaching or working with kids?

**Teaching gives me a chance to share my love of art with kids of all ages. I really enjoy working with kids because they still have that creative spark that sometimes fades as we get older.

Tell us about your family life:  Kids, significant other, kids, pets?

**In 2021, my family and I moved from the coast of North Carolina to Maine.  My wife, Jennifer, and I have an 11 year -old son, Oliver, who attends Shapleigh School in Kittery.  We have two pets, a cat named BB and a dog named Llewie. We love to be outdoors and enjoy spending our free time hiking, biking, or skiing.
