Joe Long

Mr. Joe Long, Chair

Joe was elected to the Board of Directors in November 2013. He received his B.S. in Physics from Merrimack College in 1975, and his M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1992. He has worked in photovoltaics, computers, networking, and consumer electronics, and retired in May of 2021. He has also served as adjunct faculty at Fisher and Nichols colleges. He lives in South Berwick with his wife Jessica and their daughter Maeve, who attends Marshwood High School. He also has two grandchildren in the district.

Jennifer Therrien

Jenn joined the Board in July 2020.  Jenn holds a BSN from UNH and has been a Registered Nurse for 19 years, currently working per diem in Labor and Delivery at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. She is passionate about caring for and empowering birthing people and families through their birth and postpartum experiences. She enjoys running, camping, and spending time outdoors with her family and friends. Jenn celebrates diversity and feels that as a community, we are strongest when we support and learn from each other. Jenn and her husband, Ross, live in Eliot and have two children in the district.

Lisa Flynn

Ms. Lisa Flynn, Board Member

Lisa was elected to the Board of Directors in November 2018. She is the owner of Yoga 4 Classrooms and is the author of several books supporting whole child development and well-being. With a degree in Communication, Lisa has over 20 years of experience in business management, marketing, and communications, education consulting, and curriculum development. She’s a national presenter and youth mental health advocate whose work has been featured on Fox News and in publications such as Education WeekForbes, Greater Good, Yoga Journal, and Parents. Lisa enjoys volunteering in a variety of ways for our schools and community. This includes several years on the Marshwood Education Foundation grant review committee and six years on the board of MHS Ski Team Boosters, three as Board President. She and her husband John have two children who recently graduated from Marshwood: Brooke (Class of ’19), and John/"Jack" (Class of ’21).

Heather Holland

Mrs. Heather Holland, Board Member

Elected to the Board of Directors in November 2020. Heather holds a B.S. in Family Studies, a minor in Education, and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of New Hampshire. She is a certified teacher (K-8) in the state of NH with several years of experience teaching 5th grade. She is well versed in elementary education, teacher mentoring, teacher evaluation, and higher education online learning teaching and student success. She was an Instructor, Field Placement Coordinator, and Advisor at Granite State College School of Education. Currently, she is the Associate Director of UNH Online at the University of New Hampshire. She has volunteered in Scouts, local sports, and parent groups throughout the years. She also serves on the South Berwick Recreation Committee. Heather enjoys traveling the world and learning about different cultures. She has traveled extensively to more than 20 different countries. Heather also enjoys skiing, field hockey, surfing, sailing, and reading. Heather moved to South Berwick in 2004 with her husband and has three children who attend Marshwood schools.

Kate Claesson

Kate was elected to the Board in June of 2021. Kate holds a BSN and MS in Natural Resources from UNH, and also a BS in Nursing from USM. She has been a nurse for 12 years and currently works in the ICU at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.   Kate is passionate about health and wellness and enjoys supporting families and patients she works with through tough times and into recovery. Kate enjoys problem-solving and finding the positive in all situations. She is an avid outdoor enthusiast and spends most of her free time outside. Kate lives in Eliot with her husband and their two boys, both of which attend school in the district.

Mrs. Rebekah Barker, Board Member

Rebekah was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2022. She received her BS in Business Management from Keene State College in 1997. Rebekah spent 14 years as a Financial Planner before deciding to stay home to raise her three children. She enjoys volunteering within the School District and Community, has been part of several school Boosters, and is currently the Treasurer of Marshwood Youth Lacrosse. In her free time, Rebekah loves to travel, golf, hike, read, and spend time with family and friends. Rebekah and her husband have lived in Eliot since 2005 and have two children who attend Marshwood schools.
