The Marshwood girls XC team was the Class A state runner up today advancing to the New England Championship on Saturday 11/12 in Rhode Island. This marks the second consecutive year that the girls team has been 2nd in Class A and a NE qualifying team. The Hawks were led by medalists Sarah McClellan (5th) and Addie Fuller (8th) along with scorers Maya Sanzone (18th), Emma Tessier (26th) and Alana Day (31st). Maggie Chamberlain (44th) and Ava Sanzone (81st) were the other Marshwood finishers. Congrats girls!

Great things happening at Marshwood:
*Rich Luciano was recognized as the NFHS 2021-22 Alpine Girls Ski Coach of the Year for the entire state of Maine and goes into the running for National Coach of the Year. (See attached)
*Kristen Amato and the Marshwood Field Hockey team were recently named the Class A Sportsmanship Award winner and will be recognized at the November 5th State Championship game at Messalonskee HS
*Matt Sanzone and Girls XC team recognized as the Class A Sportsmanship Award winner for 2022.
*Ben Deschene was named SMAA Boys Soccer Co-Coach of the Year for the 2022 season. He was also named Coach of the Year last season. Ben also attained his 100th career coaching win this Fall on Oct 17th vs Cheverus.

Marshwood girls earn runner-up finish at Class A South Regionals.
For the second year in a row the Marshwood Hawks girls cross country team was the Class A South regional runner-up, finishing behind Bonny Eagle. The Hawks were led by medalists Addie Fuller (9th) & Sarah McClellan (10th) and also had top 25 finishes from Alana Day (19th), Maya Sanzone (21st), Maggie Chamberlain (22nd) and Ava Sanzone (23rd). They advanced to the Class A State Championship next Saturday, 10/29, at Twin Brook.
The boys team put forth a great effort, but finished 12th of 17, and did not advance to States. Nate Kelley, Gehrig Hatch, Ben Byrd, Hayden Sawyer, and Joe Riddell were the Hawks scorers.

HS Cross Country results from race at Massebesic:
The Marshwood girls ran to an easy victory scoring 22 points while placing 5 in the top 7, outpacing Noble (43 points) and Massebesic (58). Maggie Chamberlain turned in a dominant performance for the Hawks winning the race by over 45 seconds. Brynn Butler ran a strong race and was 3rd overall, while teammates Ava Gilmore, Laura Horvath, and Lila Manter finished 5th, 6th, and 7th respectively. The boys team did not have enough finishers to score, but Jackson Widerstrom (10th overall) and Griffin Smith (12th overall) both ran excellent races for the Hawks.
