Good News from Marshwood High School Marshwood High School Students Go Rafting On Sunday, September 25th, 38 Marshwood High School Outdoor Education students departed from the high school at 4:00 am and traveled to the Maine Rafting Expeditions base camp in Millinocket for a day of rafting on the West Branch of the Penobscot River. The river was running fast (3,000 CFS) and the students were greeted by their first class 5 rapids about two minutes into the trip. There were a few 'unscheduled' swims (falling out of the raft, Mr. Patch twice!) and a few 'scheduled' swims throughout the day. The trip ended back at base camp where the students and leaders enjoyed a hardy meal before heading South. The group arrived at MHS at 10 pm that night. All participants would like to thank their Bus Driver, Brian Carroll for safely getting them there and back home safely The Outdoor Education Program began in 2012 when Marshwood High School Educator, Scott Patch, was awarded a Marshwood Education Foundation grant for HOLD (Hawk Outdoor Leadership Development). HOLD began as “a student lead group that provides all students with the opportunity to experience the outdoors”. They established a partnership with the Marshwood Great Works School to provide its fifth-grade students with high school student mentors who traveled with them during the annual Pinkham Notch trips. Since 2012, Mr. Patch has provided Marshwood students with many opportunities to experience outdoor activities. Thank you for all you do, Mr. Patch!

Looking for help with a class? The peer tutoring program is here to help! We have 47 fabulous tutors who provide assistance in almost every class offered at MHS. Many productive sessions have already taken place in geometry, algebra1 and 2, French, English, freshman science, biology, and more! Accessing the tutors is easy: at least one tutor is in the Learning Center every block so students can stop in during study hall. Students can also fill out the FORM and Ms. Martinson will set up a meeting time with a peer tutor. . Your peers make great teachers, and the Learning Center is a great place to meet during your study hall. Some tutors are also available to meet after school or at night over Google Meet. For more information, swing by the Learning Center or email Ms. Martinson (meg.martinson@rsu35.org).
