🍎 Marshwood Middle School Joins the Great Apple Crunch!🍎
On Apple Crunch Day, students and staff at Marshwood Middle School joined thousands across New England to celebrate healthy eating and local agriculture with one loud, collective CRUNCH! Together, advisories and lunch groups bit into crisp, locally sourced apples to promote wellness and support Maine farmers. The event was part of the Farm to School movement, which encourages students to learn where their food comes from and make healthy choices. Smiles, laughter, and plenty of crunching could be heard throughout the school as MMS showed its Hawk pride for healthy living and community connection.

Building Assets, Reducing Risks (BARR) at MMS
This year, Marshwood Middle School is excited to continue our work with BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks)—a nationally recognized program that helps schools build stronger relationships, support student strengths, and improve academic outcomes. The heart of BARR is simple: when every student is seen, heard, and supported, they thrive. Through BARR, our staff meet regularly to share insights, coordinate supports, and build connections with students and families.
One of the key pieces of BARR is I-Time—short for “Individual Time”—where teachers lead lessons designed to strengthen relationships, teach social-emotional skills, and build our school community. These lessons are interactive, engaging, and focused on helping students feel connected both to one another and to their teachers.
Our First I-Time
. n September, we’ll kick off our very first I-Time of the year! The lesson will focus on getting to know one another, celebrating what makes each student unique, and setting the tone for a supportive school year. Students will take part in team-building activities that help them feel included and valued while learning more about the classmates they’ll share their middle school journey with.
This first session is just the beginning. Each month, I-Time will give students and staff a chance to pause, connect, and strengthen the culture of care at MMS—helping us all live out our belief that every student matters, every day.

Marshwood Adult Education Joined MMS at “Meet the Principal Night”
Marshwood Adult and Community Education participated in the afternoon
activities at Marshwood Middle School in Eliot, ME by providing families with
information about additional educational opportunities available in their
community. Many community members are often unaware of the wide range of
options that the adult education program offers, making this event an ideal
opportunity to explain how such programs can assist individuals in developing
their educational and career goals.
At Marshwood Adult and Community Education, we provide flexible scheduling
and personalized support to help students manage their educational pursuits
alongside work and family responsibilities. Our programs are designed to meet
the diverse needs of adult learners, whether they aim to complete their high
school education, acquire new job skills, or pursue personal enrichment.

Yesterday our Hawks were part of the "Play For A Cause" Volleyball Invitational. We accomplished quite a bit. The girls won their bracket! But more importantly they showed selflessness in mentoring some of our younger players. Thank you to all that came out.

What a tremendous first few days of school! The first days of school are always filled with excitement, from new teachers and schedules to connecting with friends old and new at lunch, wellness and in the classroom. The start of the year is a great reminder of all the wonderful things that come with the start of a new year.
Tomorrow, Friday, September 5th, is our first all-school assembly. We ask students and staff to wear their favorite Marshwood or purple outfits.
