MMS Student Council is sponsoring a school-wide SPIRIT WEEK! this weeek from February 14-18. The week promises fun and festive "DRESS UP" theme days with a culmination of school-wide Virtual Bingo on Friday !!
Take a look at these scientists in action! Mr. Carson's sixth grade class is honing their observation and questioning skills. In the pictures you will see students observing soil under different conditions. One of their jobs was to think about condensation and evaporation in the different soil environments presented.
Creativity Week was held at MMS and was sponsored by Google. Students submitted their creativity through a Google Classroom format created by Ms. Balsiger.
Our student’s time at school matters. They make friends, learn valuable lessons, create a life for themselves and make many memories. These memories will be captured inside the pages of the Marshwood Middle School yearbook.

Chorus students are composing a piece about physical and mental challenges. These are some lyric builds, or thoughts that will soon form the words for our combined Grade 6-7-8 Chorus piece. Chorus is lead by director Kristine Bisson.
Our very own teachers Cathy Locke and Kris Bisson were recognized by the Maine Principals Association (MPA).
The MPA has been highlighting positive stories for schools throughout the State of Maine. Mr. Creech shared with the MPA the amazing work our staff, students, and school community have been doing with the Veteran's Day Celebration. Led by Cathy Locke and Kris Bisson, this project embodies what is best in schools when dedicated teachers work with students, their families, and the community to honor and celebrate our Veterans and First Responders.

Microsacs on sale this week! Sixth Grader Grant Palardy, Mrs. Locke's top costumer shows off his purchases this morning.
This week only we will be selling Microsacs, a flannel heating pad used for aches and pains. They are heated in the microwave and perfect for cold days and for cold hands.
The proceeds go to Families in Need and will be deposited in that account with the school counselors.
The Microsacs are made by students in Mrs. Locke's sewing classes who have completed their projects. The prices range from $1-$8, depending on size.
They can be purchased during morning advisory and outside the cafeteria at lunch.
Students on the 8 White team practice the importance of diction by writing their own "10-word story." Students practice using careful word choice and specific vocabulary to create a story with a beginning, a middle and an end in 10 words or fewer.

Earlier this week students and staff at Marshwood Middle School eagerly awaited the convoy of vehicles from Wreaths Across America. The convoy of vehicles travels from Columbia Falls, Maine and travels to Arlington National Cemetery but not before its final stop in Maine at the Eliot Fire Department. Saturday, December 17th is "National Wreath Across America Day."

The Civil Rights Team here at MMS is building a culture of inclusivity. On Tuesday, the members of the Civil Rights Team held a kick off event with the "Day of Welcome." At the December staff meeting, Lucinda Cox and Annabelle Getchell addressed the teachers with the goals for the next school wide activity "to be inclusive of all cultural and familial traditions." In Advisory this morning students were given the opportunity to fill out an anonymous Google Form asking questions about cultural traditions and giving students the chance to share those traditions through pictures and artifacts.In the message sent to students the Civil Rights Team says "We would love to hear about ALL of your cultural and familial celebrations, not just the ones celebrated at this time of year. It is our hope to have the lobby reflect the celebrations of our students and their families all year long." The students and staff are looking forward to seeing the display case in the lobby filled with mementos connected to them.

On Tuesday, December 7, Marshwood Middle School Civil Rights promoted a 'Day of Welcome' to celebrate and promote the idea that school communities are for everyone and all the parts of their identities are protected under the Maine Civil Rights Act: race and skin color, national origin and ancestry, religion, disabilities, gender (including gender identity and expression), and sexual orientation. Posters were displayed throughout the school and students dressed in bright colors to highlight diversity and acceptance. CRT advisors are Renee Caverly and Katelyn Williams.

World’s Most Awesome Invertebrate Project! Last week students on the 7 White team to select the world's most awesome invertebrate. Students practiced using scientific vocabulary and their research skills to learn about a unique, interesting creature that was unknown to them.
