On Friday Ms. Nelson took a group of seven Marshwood students to Waterville, Maine. They competed in the Thomas Cup at Thomas College. Each team was made of 5 students, we hosted a team plus 2/5ths of an additional team. The teams competed all night in challenges. The challenges were a challenge, CSI, Cybersecurity, Robotics, ESports, and the Innovation Challenge. (The innovation challenge centered around paper rocket-building and launching.) Our full Marshwood Team (SCM) did admirably. They solved the robotics challenge with one line of code. For the innovation challenge, they launched their paper rocket and got it stuck near the ceiling (talk about a long shot). (Team members- Zoie L, Jackie L, Zach L, Brandon L, Taylor W) The 2/5th team was with two additional schools. They called themselves 'Windwood', they earned second place in the competition. Zach F distinguished himself in robotics and cybersecurity. Kevin F carried the team with his CSI investigative skills, not to mention his rocket-building skills. Everyone on this team earned a scholarship to Thomas College.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific. #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias The 2022 International Women’s Day organizers have some missions for us all: Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality. There is definitely still bias that needs breaking. Recent research shows bias against women to be alive and well, even in environments where women are themselves the majority. There’s also good reason to believe women can clear this hurdle, as they have so many others. To list just a few examples: The percentage of US chemists, CEOs, and mathematicians who are female increased from 2000 to 2019. The number of women business owners is on the rise. The number of women across the globe seeking education is growing. #BreaktheBias
