Indoor Track....On the Eve of the Winter Solstice, the Hawks rolled into USM at 6:45 PM for the premiere event of the evening. Working with a reduced squad, due to meet rescheduling, the team would face off against some of the best competition in the state. Our athletes did not disappoint, as the team cheerfully picked up several PRs, season bests and a handful of impressive postseason qualifiers. Track veteran Ryan Tarr quiety hammered out a state qualifier in the 55 while also PRing in the shot put with a Southwestern qualifying toss. Harrison Page built upon his solid week 1 performance with Southwestern Qualifiers in the 55 and 200. Page continues to entertain us all with his explosive running style, paired with his ability to rise to the level of his competition. Lilli Hammond showed up last night (her first meet) with no expectations and announced herself on the scene with 3 placements and 8 points (55, 200, and SP). The coaches are very excited to see what Lilli can do in the weeks and months ahead. Rock-Steady Zach Cullen stepped outside his comfort zone to run his first 400 of the year. After a blazing opening 200, Zach held on for a 56.45 qualifying him for Southwesterns. In the distance events, the Hawks continued to impress with Emma Tessier ripping a Southwestern qualifying 800 time, followed by Luke Nelson checking the SWQ 800 box with a 2.18.23 PR. Luke showed his tenacity and heart with a back and forth final 100 meters, earning the victory and remaining undefeated in the 800 this season. The girls one mile, turned out to be the event of the evening with two of our athletes earning AUTOMATIC State Qualifying times. Catie McClellan showed her competitive fire going out fast against a top tier Thornton athlete. Catie came across with an impressive 5:53.02 earning 2nd place. Meanwhile, Addie Fuller calmly clicked off seven consecutive 43 second splits before exploding in her final 150 to finish alongside Catie with a 5:43.17. Not fully satisfied with her 1 Mile qualifier, McClellan decided to “go to the well” again, finishing up the evening with a State Qualifying 12:44.28 (automatic) in the 2 mile. Not an easy double, for sure, but Catie pulled it off without hesitation. As we rumble into Winter and the holidays the coaches couldn’t be happier with the early season results! ---------------------------------------------- Highlights (here are the postseason qualifying performances from last night) State Meet Qualifiers Catie McClellan 1 mile 5:43.02 automatic Addie Fuller 1 mile 5:43.17 automatic Catie McClellan 2 mile 12:44.28 automatic Ryan Tarr 55 7.15 provisional Southwesterns (SMAA Championship) Qualifiers Emma Tessier Sr. 800 2:40.54 Harrison Page Jr. 55 7.27 Harrison Page Jr. 200 25.54 Zach Cullen Sr. 400 56.45 Luke Nelson Jr. 800 2:18.23 Ryan Tarr Sr. SP 37-5.5
